Pokemon Go tends
to play coy about upcoming events, but popular speculation is that we
could see an event coinciding with Easter later this month. Although
Easter is a religious celebration, Pokemon Go could easily use
the weekend to launch a spring event involving eggs, candies, and
babies, all of which are associated with both spring and the holiday.
If Pokemon Go does pull the trigger on a Easter/Spring holiday event, here are five things we'd like to see:
[Note: The following slideshow is purely speculation and shouldn't be construed as either confirmation of a Pokemon Go holiday event or confirmation as to what the event entails.]
Double XP or Candies
Two of Pokemon Go's
most popular events were the Halloween and Thanksgiving events, which
offered double candies and experience points respectively. Fans have
clamored for another double XP event for months, but recent events
have steered more towards increased spawns.
Since gameplay almost definitely dropped during the cold winter
months in the US, a double XP or candies weekend could be just what Pokemon Go needs to shake fans out of their hibernation. If Pokemon Go wants
to make fans happy without putting a lot of effort into the next event,
turn Easter weekend into a double XP event and watch players come out
of hibernation to try to catch everything they can.
Decreased Egg Distances
Since
Easter is often associated with Easter eggs, it makes a lot of sense to
incorporate eggs into an Easter-themed event. The easiest way to do
this is to decrease the distance needed to hatch eggs for a week, which
would allow players to quickly churn through dozens of eggs. Halving the
distance needed to hatch Pokemon eggs would be the most obvious choice,
but reducing it by 75% would really get players out and walking all
weekend.
Hatchable Johto Starters
Last month, we reported that several Gen 2 Pokemon were inexplicably unable to be hatched in Pokemon Go.
We still don't know why the Pokemon weren't added to the egg pool, but
it's made some Pokemon impossible to get for players who live in rural
and Pokemon-lite areas.
The egg pools are in desperate need of an overhaul anyways, and an
Easter event would be the perfect time to do it. Adding the
Johto Starter Pokemon to the egg pools (especially in conjunction with
the aforementioned decrease in egg hatching distances) would be a great
way to breathe new life into the hatching mechanic of the game.
Spawnable Baby Pokemon
The Baby Pokemon were the first group of Gen 2 Pokemon introduced to Pokemon Go,
but they've largely haven't had much of an impact on the game, as they
can only be obtained via hatching eggs. Now that the other Gen 2
Pokemon have been added to Pokemon Go, there's really no reason the Baby Pokemon haven't been added to the wider spawn pools.
Adding the baby Pokemon would make the notoriously hard to catch
Togetic a little easier to obtain and tie into the Easter theme of cute
babies.
More Chansey and Exeggute
If Pokemon Go chose
to go with an "increased spawn" themed event for Easter, the game can
still tie into Easter's egg theme. Chansey and Exeggcute are both
technically classified as "Egg Pokemon" and are useful Pokemon to have
in Pokemon Go. Exeggcute evolves into Exeggutor, the most
powerful Grass-type Pokemon in the game, while Chansey evolves into the
ultimate damage absorber Blissey.
The only problem with increasing Chansey and Exeggcute spawns is that
both were recently used in the Valentine's Day event, which boosted
"pink" Pokemon. Fans might get a little upset if Chansey and
Exeggcute both spawned with increased frequency so quickly.
