Worlds Qualifications Adjusted for 2017 Season

Championship Point awards and Worlds invitation thresholds have been adjusted for the 2017 Championship Series. After a midseason review of the expected number of invitations to the 2017 Pokémon World Championships , we've decided to make some changes to allow more players to earn invitations to the big event. The changes are happening in two ways: lowering the invitation threshold in some regions (meaning players can qualify for Worlds with fewer Championship Points), and increasing the number of Championship Points awarded at some events. Check out the updated qualifications table. You can see all of the updated Championship Point tables here: Pokémon TCG Championship Point Tables Pokémon Video Game Championship Point Tables The leaderboards are currently being updated to reflect the new Championship Point thresholds. They should be fully up to date within the next 72 hours. Remember, you can check your Championship Points total in your

'Pokémon GO' Announces Adventure Week, A Rock Type Event With Buddy Bonuses

Niantic Pokemon GO Adventure Week Another week, another Pokémon GO event, this one just ten days after the end of its last one, the grass type-focused Worldwide Bloom . It’s called “Adventure Week,” and it’s not tied to any specific holiday anywhere in the world. Niantic just introduced it in a blog post that highlights that players have walked a (rather arbitrary) 15.8 billion kilometers. In that “adventure spirit” they came up with this new event, which will run from May 18 th through May 25 th , and it focuses on rock type Pokémon with a few other added bonuses. Here’s what to expect from this new event, according to the recent listing: - Discounted, 50% off Pokeballs in the store - Players will get more items per PokeStop - Buddy Pokémon now find candy 4x faster - There’s a new wardrobe item, the Explorer’s Hat, available for free - The event will see increased spawns of rock type Pokémon, and the article specifically mentions

Pokemon GO launches Adventure Week for its 1st birthday

Pokemon Go was launched last year, and despite expectations that this is just another one-day wonder, the game marks its first birthday this Thursday. Because of the anniversary, Niantic is launching an event called Adventure Week and will bring many incentives for players, willing to catch ‘em all. In the seven days between May 18 and May 25, many Rock-type Pokemon will appear throughout the game. Even if you are collecting Geodudes, rare Pokemon like Omanyte and Kabuto might also arise more often. Increased rate of Rock-type Pokemon will be accompanied with Buddy Candy that will take just a kilometer to attain, instead of the regular 4 kilometers of walking. Along with the monsters, some appearance accessories are going to appear. Your avatar will have “brand-new wardrobe item.” The “Adventurer’s Hat” will be available for free to all players and only time will tell if it will be still free even after the Adventure Week is over. Nintendo Download: 18th May (North America)

It's that time, once again, for the North American Nintendo Download Update. We'll dare to suggest that this week has a tasty line-up on offer, from quality download-only and retail arrivals on Switch to a big time release on 3DS, along with a long-awaited Wii U game to tempt us back to our GamePads. There's a lot to consider, so let's get to it. Nintendo Switch eShop Thumper   (Drool LLC, $19.99) - Previously released on PSN and held up as a strong demonstration of VR gaming, this one now arrives on Switch for hybrid gaming on the TV or on the go. Psychedelic visuals, a pumping soundtrack and a sharp level of difficulty make this an enticing offering; our review will be with you later today. Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors   (HAMSTER, $7.99) - Released in 1995 by Sunsoft, the game sees you take on the mantel of one of eight warriors thrown into a world which we are told "was destroyed by the destructors of the universe". So yeah, it

This One-Off RJ-Romain Jerome Pokémon Watch Costs Almost $260,000

If you head into pretty much any toy store on the face of this planet you'll probably be able to pick up a Pokémon -themed watch for loose change, and while that might be enough for most fans of the series, it's good to know that those with more money than sense have other options. With that in mind, watchmaker  RJ-Romain Jerome has created a Pokémon timepiece which costs - wait for it - $258,000 . Dubbed the " Tourbillon Pokémon" , this one-of-a-kind item is described as “the perfect alchemy between a prestigious horological complication and the emblem of the millennials.” Quite . That sounds like a bad thing to us, but then we're old and grumpy. The watch's colourful dial - which features 3D effect characters from the series - is set within an all-black 48mm case, while the strap is made from black alligator, enhanced with yellow and blue stitching. We can think of a million and one things we'd spend $260,000 on instead of this, but wh

Players Crush Latest Pokemon Sun and Moon Global Mission

The results are in for the latest Global Mission and it's another big win for Pokemon Sun and Moon players. The latest Global Mission required players to collect three million or more Poke Beans, items that can be used to boost a Pokemon's affection or speed up various activities in the game's Poke Pelago training area. When the event ended, players collected a total of 75 million Poke Beans, or 2500% more than what was necessary to pass the event. Players who participated in the Global Mission will receive 2,000 - 4,000 FC, as well as a Love Ball and a Rare Candy. This marks the fourth consecutive successful Global Mission in Pokemon Sun and Moon . Players initially struggled with the Global Missions during the first two months, but quickly got back on track in 2017 after the game lowered its overall goals. The next event will start on May 30, 2017, and will involve successfully fishing for Pokemon in the bubbling rare spots that occasionally pop u

Another Possible Pokemon Stars Hint Emerges...Or Does It?

(Photo: The Pokemon Company) The Pokemon fanbase has gotten hyped over the last few weeks about a possible new game announcement. Last fall, several sites (led by Eurogamer) reported on an alleged sequel to Pokemon Sun and Moon called " Pokemon Stars " that would feature new Pokemon and would be released for the Nintendo Switch .A few weeks ago, the Pokemon Company released a celestial themed line of merchandise with the slogan "Look upon the Stars" which some thought was a clue that a Pokemon Stars announcement was imminent. Then, a gaming forum discovered a blank spot had appeared on Nintendo's archive of past Nintendo Directs, something that only happens when a Nintendo Direct is about to drop. Couple that with the fact that Pokemon has traditionally made an announcement about its next game during the second week of May, and now the hype Now, Internet detectives have jumped on a new piece of evidence that Nintendo is about to announce a Pokemon

Pokemon Go Gets Two Big Legal Wins

In addition to being a worldwide phenomenon last summer, Pokemon Go also opened the door for a lot of thorny legal cases. From questions about whether Pokemon Go 's Poke Stops and gyms constituted as virtual trespassing to cities and countries threatening bans unless certain areas were removed from the game, it seems like Pokemon Go 's lawyers have gone to court every month to defend the game. However, the game won two big victories this week in different parts of the United States. Illinois's legislature declined to move forward with a proposed law that would force Niantic to remove sites deemed ecologically sensitive, historically important, or on private property. The law was first proposed when a Chicago lawmaker heard complaints that Pokemon Go players were congregating on the ecologically sensitive Loyola Bluffs near Lake Michigan, causing alleged harm to the restored dunes. Niantic eventually removed Loyola from the game, but not before the law

Pokemon, Halo Head 2017 Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees

The votes have been tallied and some familiar heroes have emerged as the winners for this year's Video Game Hall of Fame class. The Strong Museum of Play announced that Donkey Kong , Pokemon Red and Green, Halo : Combat Evolved, and Street Fighter II are this year's inductees to the Video Game Hall of Fame. Each game was selected based on four criteria: icon-status, longevity, geographic reach, and influence. Donkey Kong helped Nintendo break into the North American market and introduced arguably the most well-known video game character of all time: Mario. Pokemon Red and Green launched the perenially popular Pokemon games and redefined RPGs as not being limited to turn-based fantasy fighters. Halo: Combat Evolved launched the XBox console as a rival to Nintendo and Sony's household consoles and became one of the best-selling games of the 2000s. Street Fighter II helped popularize the fighting genre of video games, especially as it was one of the first

Pokemon Go Adds Ability to Use Promo Codes

Pokemon Go  has quietly added a new feature to the game: the ability to use promotional codes. Players with Android phones who enter the shop will notice a box to enter promotional codes, although no codes have been revealed yet. According to Pokemon Go's support page, players can enter promotional codes to redeem items like  Poke Balls, Lure Modules, and Lucky Eggs. We don't know how the codes will be distributed, but  the page mentions that they'll be part of future events and promotions with corporate sponsors like Sprint, McDonald's, or Starbucks. Right now the promotional codes only work on Android phones, as there's apparently still some legal issues to work out with Apple. Since Apple takes a cut of every in-game transaction, some fans think that Niantic could run into trouble if they charge sponsors for running some sort of in-game promotional code. Players haven't figured out if  Pokemon Go  will use generic codes that anyone ca

A New Pokemon Go Update Is Coming This Week

As anticipated, Pokemon Go is getting a new update later this week. Niantic Labs announced the update on Pokemon Go 's webpage , but gave little details about if it would contain any new features. Per the update's release notes, the new update will contain Brazilian Portuguese language support and will update the game's medal screen so that players can see progress towards the next medal tier. Of course, it's entirely possible that Pokemon Go has more in store for us than a couple of minor updates. The game often sneaks in larger updates that aren't announced until the actual update goes live. As usual, we'll find out more about Pokemon Go 's future once the game hits APK mirrors and is datamined by various Internet denizens. Earlier this year, Pokemon Go promised four "major updates" to the game in 2017. The first of these was the addition of over 80 new Pokemon, all of which came from Pokemon Gold and Silver . The next upda

What Are the Strongest Ground Pokemon in Pokemon Go?

Ground-Type Pokemon  are a pretty varied and versatile bunch in  Pokemon Go . Some are strong attackers, while others are viable defenders in even hotly contested gyms. Although they're weak to Water-Type Pokemon, Ground-Type Pokemon can still negate several other key gym attackers. However, because many Ground-Type Pokemon have a secondary type, it's a bit hard to classify the entire type into one category.  If you're curious as to which Normal-type  Pokemon  are the strongest in  Pokemon Go , we've listed the five strongest Normal-Types in the game based on CP. Each slide will also list that Pokemon's best moveset , based on "damage per second."  Nidoking Max CP:  2386 Best Moveset:  Poison Jab/Sludge Wave With decent Attack and Stamina stats, Nidoking is best used as a gym attacker. Although Nidoking's moveset contains moves from four different types, it's a surprisingly balanced moveset, with all three charge attacks doing

Are More Shiny Pokemon Coming in Pokemon Go?

A new  Pokemon Go  event starts later today, with a "Spring Bloom" of Grass-type Pokemon planned for over the weekend. Since we're getting a weekend of increased spawns of a certain type of Pokemon, many players are speculating whether  Pokemon Go  will use the mini-event as an opportunity to introduce more Shiny Pokemon. Shiny Pokemon are alternately colored, super-rare versions of normal Pokemon that were first introduced to  Pokemon Go  during the Water Festival back in March. So far, we've only gotten Shiny Magikarp and Shiny Gyarados in  Pokemon Go , but there's evidence that a couple more Shiny Pokemon could appear as soon as this afternoon. Let's take a look at a couple of the clues and whether there's any basis to believe we'll get Shiny Pokemon tomorrow: Previous Slide 1/4 Next Shiny Bulbasaur Perhaps the biggest "flag" was the promo image posted with the announcement on  Pokemon Go &
