Unmute Current Time 0:00 / Duration Time 1:00   Niantic Pokemon GO using Apple's ARKit With well over 500 million downloads worldwide, it’s no surprise that Pokémon GO , as the biggest Augmented Reality game in history, was featured in Apple’s recent showcase of their new ARKit, something they’re adding to their devices to enhance AR capabilities of various applications. At the show, it was sort of hard to see what exactly was happening as the functionality was demoed onstage. But now Niantic has come out and talked a little bit about how exactly Pokémon GO will be using ARKit soon enough, and I have to admit, as skeptical as I was that it would make a difference, it’s actually pretty cool. The main factor in the new ARKit functionality is that it actually tracks where the ground is while you’re using it. This may sound simple enough, but previously, in GO the Pokémon are just projected

Catch Red from Pokemon in figma form

I choose you! Just ahead of the avalanche of E3 news, Japan's Pokémon Center has revealed that Red from Pokémon will be receiving the figma treatment. Currently there is not a lot of information about what the figma comes with in terms of hands, faces, and accessories. However, the reveal does list that Red will be coming with the three starter Pokémon from the first generation of games: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Pikachu will also be available as an accessory, but only for those who pre-order. Pre-orders go live for Good Smile Company on June 13, while Pokémon Center will have them live on June 17. Now that being said, I am not OK with this unless it leads to a figma for Blue which comes with an accessory that's just a full badge case so I can pose him being a showoff. It just wouldn't feel right otherwise.

A Pokemon Themed Escape Room is Coming to Japan

The Pokemon Company is teaming up with a Japanese escape room company to bring specially-themed Pokemon escape rooms to eight cities in Japan. The new Pokemon Escape Rooms are part of a promotion to promote Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You , which follows Ash and Pikachu's quest to finally meet the Legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh. The rooms will feature the "trials of Ho-Oh" and will presumably test a person's Pokemon knowledge in order to escape. Promotional material showed Ash, Professor Oak, Ho-Oh, Pikachu, and the original Starter Pokemon Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The escape room's website also hints that nearby stores will also be transferred into Professor Oak's lab to give players the opportunity to pick their first Pokemon. All attendees will also get a special Poke Ball-themed binder. While no release date was announced for the new escape rooms, they'll probably debut sometime in the next month as the new movie comes out on

Gaming Week In Review: Nintendo Pokemon Direct announces new games and returning classics, Steam Greenlight says goodbye

Nintendo announces “Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon,” “Pokken Tournament DX” and re-releases of the classic “Pokemon Gold and Silver” games for later this year As a treat tailored specifically to Pokemon fans, Nintendo released a special edition of its Nintendo Direct news broadcast that outlines its plans for the franchise over the next year. The first major announcement was Nintendo’s first “Pokemon” game for the Switch, “Pokken Tournament DX,” which is a fighting game set in the “Pokemon” universe, intended for older audiences. Through brief glimpses of gameplay, we can see that a large variety of Pokemon will be playable, from the iconic Pikachu to some of the most powerful Pokemon in the franchise, such as Mega Charizard and legendary Pokemon like Darkrai. The next announcement detailed “Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon,” the sequels to “Pokemon Sun and Moon.” These new installments are going to be an “alternate story set in the ‘Pokemon Sun and Moon’ universe,

Pokémon Gold and Silver on 3DS are the only Pokémon games you need this year

Of all the new Pokémon games out this year, the one I’m most excited for isn’t new at all. It’s, in fact, the first game I ever fell in love with, a game I’ve sunk hours and hours into, played until its literal death: Pokémon Silver , which is heading to Nintendo 3DS eShop on Sept. 22 . Pokémon Silver — and its partner game, Pokémon Gold — ranks highly on the lengthy list of games in the franchise, and it’s also near the top of my own favorites. I’ve got plenty of personal bias here, if we want to talk about it, but let’s take a look at the facts. By almost all objective measures, these Game Boy Color games represent the best of what Pokémon has to offer. Their upcoming, current-gen debut, courtesy of the 3DS Virtual Console, is at once a small re-release and a major cause for celebration. Pokémon Gold and Silver comprise the second generation of Pokémon games , along with their shinier cousin, Pokémon Crystal . When they launched in Japan in

Pokemon Go Increases Evolution Items Drop Rate

It appears that  Pokemon  Go  has made it a lot easier for players to get evolutionary items. Earlier this year,  Pokemon Go  introduced a handful of evolutionary items as part of its big "Gen 2" updates. These items are necessary for certain Pokemon to evolve, but were extremely rare....at least at first. Eventually,  Pokemon Go  changed its drop rates so that players were guaranteed to get a evolutionary item as part of their bonus for spinning a Poke Stop for seven consecutive days. Yesterday evening, Pokemon Go  updated its GAME MASTER file, the server side file that controls most of the key functions of the game. Almost immediately, players noticed that evolutionary items began dropping at an increased rate. Some players even reported getting three evolutionary items as part of their "7 Day" Poke Stop bonus. Any time there's a new GAME MASTER update, it opens up speculation that Pokemon Go  is prepping for its next big update.  Pokemon Go  h

New Pokémon games announced via Pokémon Direct

06.06.17 Share: New Pokémon games announced via Pokémon Direct During today’s Pokémon Direct presentation, Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, and Junichi Masuda, Director of GAME FREAK, announced upcoming Pokémon titles for Nintendo consoles. Pokémon is making its way to Nintendo Switch later this year with Pokkén Tournament DX . Along with all the content from both the Wii U and arcade versions of Pokkén Tournament , the Pokémon fighting game where Pokémon in battle move in direct response to the player’s actions, Pokkén Tournament DX also introduces an array of exciting new features to create the ultimate Pokkén experience. Pokkén Tournament DX features include: Play Pokkén anytime, anywhere on Nintendo Switch – Play Pokkén Tournament DX in TV mode, handh

Nintendo's Failure To Give The Switch A Proper Pokémon Game Is Inexcusable

Nintendo/Paul Tassi The Dream Yesterday was a strange day for Nintendo fans who tuned into a new Pokémon Direct hoping for some relatively simple news: Pokémon is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Of course, technically, that did happen, but only in the form of Pokken Tournament getting ported over from the Wii U to the Switch in a new “Deluxe” package . But the fully-fledged Pokémon games featured in the show, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and Gold and Silver for Virtual Console, were relegated to the 3DS. After the show, there was a brief flare-up of hope that due to a rogue listing, it appeared that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon may get a Switch release after all, but The Pokémon Company quickly shut that rumor down , saying the listing was a mistake. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are 3DS only, and there are no plans to bring them to the Switch. The two magic words everyone was looking for yesterday were “Pokémon Stars,” the long rumored, even offic

Will there ever be a proper Pokémon game on Switch?

Pokkén Tournament DX – not a ‘proper’ Pokémon game A reader is frustrated by the latest Pokémon Direct, and hopes E3 will see the Virtual Console and Pokémon come to the Switch. As I write this on Tuesday, a new Pokémon Direct has just been aired, filled with eight minutes of Pokémon goodness – or was it? Kicking it off The Pokémon Company talked about the Nintendo Switch and how it was released in March this year, immediately whipping up all hope that now, this was FINALLY the time in which Pokémon was going to be on the latest Nintendo handheld/console hybrid and a full, ‘proper’ (apparently Colosseum and XD do not count) Pokémon adventure was going to be on a console. Then came the announcement of… Pokkén Tournament DX. Sigh, Nintendo you’ve done it again. Later on in the trailer the nice man who has been playing Pokkén on his wonderful journey to see his brother slapped down on the desk two covered-up Pokémon games for his (presumably) nephews and the boxes looked

Pokémon Stars on Switch is a no-show, to fans’ dismay

Pokémon’s coming to Switch — just not the one we expected. The Pokémon Company The Pokémon Company threw a couple of curveballs during today’s Pokémon Direct . A Nintendo Switch port of Pokkén Tournament was, if not shocking, a small surprise. But it was the brief reveal of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon for Nintendo 3DS that perked up viewers’ ears — because the name they were expecting to hear was Pokémon Stars , a Nintendo Switch game. Even before the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon in November , rumors about Pokémon Stars ran rampant. The game reportedly would expand on Sun and Moon and be available on Switch, the first Pokémon adventure title to be offered on a home console. Fans pointed out several signs over the months following that seemed to corroborate this initial claim, like old, removed Pokémon Direct presentations and star-themed merch

Pokémon Go will host real-life events to celebrate its anniversary

James Bareham / The Verge It’s a little hard to believe, but Pokémon Go has been out for almost a full year. To celebrate, Niantic Labs announced that it’s planning a number of in-game and in-person events. The first big event, called the Solstice Event, will take place in the game. This will happen on June 13th, and it’ll include Fire-type and Ice-type pokémon, XP bonuses, and discounted Lucky Eggs. The team also announced that it’ll soon release a new update that focuses on collaborative gameplay which hints at a “new way” to play the game, but will also temporarily close down in-game gyms for a short while. Diehard players can also take part in the first in-person event in July: Pokémon Go Fest Chicago , which is scheduled for July 22nd, 2017. Tickets for the event will go on sale on June 19th. (Pricing and schedule are not currently available, so it’s unclear

Pokémon Sun and Moon - how and where to catch Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini

The Guardian Tapu Pokémon are Sun and Moon's version of the typical sub-legendaries that have been a new-generation staple ever since the Legendary Dogs Suicune, Raichu and Entei, way back in gen two. They're some of the best Pokémon in the game, thanks to dedicated Z Moves, abilities, and excellent stats, and so well worth your time. Each Tapu acts as a guardian for it's own island - Tapu Koko for Melemele, Tapu Lele for Akala, Tapu Bulu for Ula'Ula , and Tapu Fini for Poni Island - and are all found in their island's corresponsing ruins: the Ruins of Conflict , Ruins of Life , Ruins of Abundance , and Ruins of Hope , respectively. A final warning, too: the Tapu are only catchable after you've completed the main storyline of Sun and Moon, and so major spoilers follow below. Check out our complete Pokémon Sun and Moon walkthrough if you're still trying to finish it! Where to find and how to catch Tapu Koko - the Ruins of Conflict Tapu Ko
