Why you should care about Pokémon Gold and Silver for 3DS

And we’ll now be able to play them without busting out our ancient Nintendo portable systems. While Pokkén Tournament coming to the Switch and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the 3DS might have been the flashier announcements to come out of Nintendo’s Direct stream today, we also learned that the original versions of Pokémon Gold and Silver are coming to the 3DS via the system’s digital store for older games, the Virtual Console. For Pokémon fans, this is great news. Gold and Silver first came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999 in Japan and 2000 in the U.S. These are the best games the series has ever seen, and this is the first time in nearly 20 years that people will be able to play them in their original forms without jumping through retro hoops. Pokemon Go dominates the news headlines ahead of E3 2017 Pokemon Go has dominated the news headlines this week, as Niantic announces plans to launch a series of updates and events to mark its first year anniversary. It all begins with a  Fire-type and Ice-type event , which kicks off on June 13, and runs until June 20. The in-game event will feature an abundance of Fire-type and Ice-type Pokemon, as well as XP bonuses for throwing Poke Balls accurately. Furthermore,  Pokemon Go  players will receive discounted Lucky eggs from the in-game shop. The event will be followed by an update that introduces group-based gameplay features, which is likely to be the Raids and Legendary Pokemon update that has been rumoured. Two Region’s Pokémon Collide in a Raucous Online Competition The Kanto x Alola Regional Rumble highlighted two powerful groups of Pokémon in battle. Trainers were permitted to use only Pokémon they could discover in the Kanto region in   Pokémon Red ,   Pokémon Blue , or   Pokémon Yellow , along with Pokémon from the Alola region in   Pokémon Sun   or   Pokémon Moon . Trainers were also prohibited from giving their Pokémon Mega Stones to hold, reducing the effectiveness of several Pokémon from the Kanto region. All Trainers who finished at least three matches during this competition are eligible to receive a Pidgeotite and a Steelixite, so don’t forget to pick up yours if you participated!
