Niantic also teased the future of Pokemon Go, hinting at the next "major update" due out this spring. "With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere," Niantic wrote at the end of the blogpost. "Players can look forward to all new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokémon GO that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine."
That's the second time we've heard the phrase "cooperative social gameplay" from Niantic. There's two big possibilities as to what this could mean. The first is the long-rumored overhaul of Pokemon Go's gyms, which are currently dominated by a combination of high level players and spoofers. The other is a possibility Legendary Pokemon event, which would require players to work together to defeat and capture a Pokemon like Mewtwo, Moltres, or Articuno.
While fans are expecting a new monthly event next week to coincide with Easter, don't expect this to be the "major update" promised by Niantic earlier this year. A new update coming out next week will only have some minor additions and bug fixes.
