Pokemon Go UPDATE: Bad news for Niantic as Easter event COUNTDOWN begins




POKEMON Go developer Niantic could launch an Easter event as early as this week, following reports that millions have ditched the game since it launched last year.

 developer Niantic has been handed some bad news this week, as new stats reveal how many users have stopped playing the game.
At its peak, Pokemon Go was being played by a massive 28 million people. Unfortunately, however, around 80% of those users have stopped playing.
New data obtained by Recode shows that the Pokemon Go player base has gone from 28.5 million to 5 million by the end of last year.
Based on those trends, it's fair to assume that even fewer people are playing now, although the release of Gen 2 Pokemon and the launch of Water Festival event may have seen the number rise.
To combat the drop in players, Niantic is expected to launch an Easter event in the coming days, perhaps as early as this week.
New Niantic events tend to be revealed around midday on any given weekday, so it's worth checking back soon.

POKEMON Go developer Niantic has confirmed plans to release Legendary Pokemon in 2017. Here are the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Legendaries that will be coming soon.

While nothing has been announced regarding an Easter update, Niantic has celebrated other major holidays, so a new event seems likely.
An Easter event is likely to incorporate eggs in some way, perhaps making them easier to hatch.
The last big in-game event introduced Shiny Pokemon, which gives Niantic .
Any new event could coincide with the release of a new shiny Pokemon, and give players a better chance of catching that particular Pokemon by increasing spawn rates - much like the .

And it looks like the Water Festival was a huge success, especially if Niantic's latest stats are anything to go by.
Turns out Pokemon Go players caught more than half a billion Magikarp during the week long event.
"Great work, Trainers! Collectively, you caught over 589 million Magikarp during the #PokemonGO Water Festival."
The Water Festival increased the spawn rates for water-based Pokemon, and also introduced Shiny  variants.

The  Pokémon Go craze has definitely fizzled out over the last year or so, with several key promised features still not released yet, but lapsed trainers now have a reason to reinstall the game again.
