What are the Strongest Fighting Pokemon in Pokemon Go?

Although Fighting-Type Pokemon have big weaknesses to Psychic and Fairy-Type Pokemon, these Pokemon have a very critical role in Pokemon Go thanks to their ability to quickly defeat the Snorlax and Blissey lurking inside many gyms. Fighting-Type Pokemon are the only Pokemon who have an advantage over those souped-up Normal-Type Pokemon, which makes them invaluable to trainers looking to conquer their local gym.
If you're curious as to which Fighting-type Pokemon are the strongest in Pokemon Go, we've picked out what we feel are the five best Fighting-Types in the game. Each slide will also list that Pokemon's best moveset, based on "damage per second."

5) Primeape

primeape
Max CP: 2105
Best Moveset: Counter/Close Combat
Like most Fighting-Type Pokemon, Primeape is a bit of a glass cannon, with a great Attack stat but crummy Stamina and Defense. Although Primeape is capable of learning the devastatingly effective Counter/Close Combat moveset, its other moves are trash. If you don't have a Counter/Close Combat Primeape, it's better to just leave this one at home and pick a Pokemon with stronger attacks.

4) Hitmonlee

hitmonlee
Max CP: 2406
Best Moveset: Rock Smash/Close Combat
Hitmonlee is a pretty effective Fighting-Type Pokemon, with great Attack and Defense stats. Hitmonlee does have a crummy Stamina stat, so it's probably not the best choice to use as a gym defender, but it should stand a fighting chance of clearing any Blissey or Snorlax out of your gym pretty quickly. If you're trying to evolve a Tyrogue into Hitmonlee, be sure to appraise it first. Tyrogue will only evolve into Hitmonlee if it has a higher Attack IV stat than its Defense or Stamina IVs.

3) Poliwrath

Max CP: 2441
Best Moveset: Rock Smash/Hydro Pump
Poliwrath is the only Water/Fighting dual-type Pokemon in Pokemon Go, which gives it a bit of extra versatility. Poliwrath's potential moveset includes both strong water and fighting moves, which gives players some extra options when deciding when to use it in battle. Poliwrath has an exceptionally high Stamina stat, which is probably why you see so many Poliwrath hanging around in the middle of gyms.

2) Machamp

machamp
Max CP: 2889
Best Moveset: Counter/Close Combat
For most players, Machamp will be the strongest Fighting-Type Pokemon they'll ever encounter in the game. With great Attack and Stamina stats, Machamp is the perfect counter to wiping out Snorlax and Blissey from gyms and is also a viable top-level play in gyms. Machamp's biggest disadvantage is that its potential moveset contains two Steel-Type attacks, so there's a very good chance your Machamp will wind up with a move that doesn't have a same type attack bonus

1) Heracross

heracross
Max CP: 2938
Best Moveset: Counter/Close Combat
Unlike the lackluster regional Pokemon other areas got, South America got a real treat when it landed Heracross as its exclusive Pokemon. Heracross is the best Fighting-Type Pokemon in the game, with an elite Attack stat and decent Defense and Stamina. Heracross can also learn the most powerful Bug and Fighting-Type moves in the game, which gives it a great advantage over several common gym defenders. If you're a Pokemon Go fanatic, schedule a trip down to South America (or parts of Florida/Texas that are below the 29th parallel) to grab one of these great Pokemon today!

Nintendo's Failure To Give The Switch A Proper Pokémon Game Is Inexcusable

Nintendo/Paul Tassi The Dream Yesterday was a strange day for Nintendo fans who tuned into a new Pokémon Direct hoping for some relatively simple news: Pokémon is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Of course, technically, that did happen, but only in the form of Pokken Tournament getting ported over from the Wii U to the Switch in a new “Deluxe” package . But the fully-fledged Pokémon games featured in the show, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and Gold and Silver for Virtual Console, were relegated to the 3DS. After the show, there was a brief flare-up of hope that due to a rogue listing, it appeared that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon may get a Switch release after all, but The Pokémon Company quickly shut that rumor down , saying the listing was a mistake. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are 3DS only, and there are no plans to bring them to the Switch. The two magic words everyone was looking for yesterday were “Pokémon Stars,” the long rumored, even offic...
