Will the Next Pokemon Games Be Remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl?

pokemondiamondandpearl
Remakes of older games have long been a tradition in the Pokemon franchise, dating all the way back to the release of Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen over 10 years ago. Typically, Game Freak will release one remake per "Generation," partially to fill time and keep players interested until the next new games come out. Most recently, Game Freak and Nintendo released Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014, which were remakes of the 2003 games Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire.
Many fans have assumed that remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl would eventually come out, and a trailer for the new Pokemon movie provides a hint that they could be the next games in the series. The trailer reveals that Ash will team up with two new trainers to find the Legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh. What's interesting is that both those trainers have partner Pokemon from the Sinnoh region, despite the movie allegedly taking place during the earliest days of Ash's adventures.
Piplup and Lucario are arguably the two most popular Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and been featured in various games and merchandise for years. Lucario got its own movie back in 2006 and was a featured Pokemon in both Pokemon X & Y and Pokken Tournament. Meanwhile, Piplup appeared in the Pokemon anime for years as Dawn's partner Pokemon.
Although the inclusion of Piplup and Lucario in the new movie isn't a guarantee that the next Pokemon games will be Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, it's definitely a likely nod to where the games will go next. There's even a precedent for using the Pokemon movies to hint at future games, as previous movies have revealed new Pokemon or other new information about the next set of games.
With the reveal of Marshadow earlier today, it definitely looks like the Pokemon franchise is starting to pick up steam for a busy summer. Stay tuned to WWG's Pokemon page for more news about the popular game franchise as it happens.
