Where art Mew? Pokémon Go Quests and Storylines – how do you catch Mew and what are the research tasks?

IN ONE of the biggest updates to Pokemon Go ever, Niantic has revealed its brand new quest system.
Just as we predicted, this could revolutionise the game by giving players tasks and rewards, and even gives you the opportunity to catch the rarest ever Pokemon. We've got the lowdown...

What is the new Quest feature?

As predicted, Quests are coming to Pokemon Go - and it's about time!
Essentially these are going to be task and reward based quests that follow a storyline and ultimately help you find the rare Pokemon, Mew.
There are two types of quest activities coming out with the launch:
Field Research
These are daily quests which you get by spinning Pokestops. The objectives that you get from these are typically fairly simple.
You might be asked to win gym battles or catch certain types of Pokemon.
The rewards (that we know about so far) range from potions and raid passes to rare candy.
The more stops you spin the better as you can string together these tasks for stamps - after seven you can claim a Research Breakthrough prize which contains better items and even legendary Pokemon.

Special Research
Special Research is where things get slightly more interesting as these are story-led missions.
As this stage we don't know too much, however, Professor Willow himself is going to be in the game to help trainers around the world complete their task.
The Special Research quest revealed by Niantic is called A Mythical Discovery - as you can see from the image above, it features several small quests that are somewhat similar to the basic daily quests - how the story aspect of it takes effect is not yet clear.
When you finish this quest you will be granted the opportunity to catch a Mew.
As soon as we know more this will be updated!

For Your Pokémon GO Mew Hunt, Here's Which Gen 1-3 Pokémon Can Be Ditto Now

Niantic Pokemon GO While the first Mews are already being collected by die-hard Pokémon GO fans, for most of us, the journey is going to take quite a bit longer . While the first few steps of the Mew “Special Research” quest are pretty easy, eventually, you’ll start running into a few walls like having to evolve a Gyarados or land an excellent curve throw (skill dependent, of course). But one of the “gates” is mostly based on luck. Professor Willlow seems to think Mew is disguising itself as other Pokémon, so it wants you to catch a Pokémon who can also do that. And you guessed it, that’s Ditto. Ditto was one of the Gen 1 stragglers introduced late into the game because I’m pretty sure it took a while for Niantic to figure out how to code him. But now, three generations later, Ditto no longer just appears as random Pidgeys and Ratattas, but rather a whole host of Gen 1-3 Pokémon. I had no idea what the full list of curre...
